If a great funk track needs one essential ingredient, it is a groove that grabs attention and refuses to let go. The Underdogs of Funk understand that principle on their new single, ‘Karma on Speed Dial’, delivering an upbeat, personality-filled release that brings classic musical influences into a fresh, modern setting.
The song makes its entrance with an engaging beat and lively keyboard work, immediately creating the kind of atmosphere that invites listeners to turn up the volume. There is a playful confidence to the production, with the rhythm section establishing a solid foundation for the melodic elements to shine. The result is a track that feels energetic without becoming overwhelming, allowing its individual musical details to breathe.
A particularly appealing feature is the song’s connection to the rich tradition of Motown-inspired soul. The vocals have a bright, melodic quality that adds an unmistakable human warmth to the performance, while the funky instrumental arrangement supplies plenty of movement and character. This combination gives the single a familiar appeal without making it feel trapped in the past.
The keyboard riffs deserve special mention. They bring colour and personality to the arrangement, reinforcing the retro influence while helping the track maintain its own identity. Meanwhile, the drums provide a consistent rhythmic drive that encourages listeners to get involved. Everything is geared towards creating a sense of enjoyment, with the production placing the groove firmly at the centre of the experience.
‘Karma on Speed Dial’ also has the kind of versatility that makes a track useful in a variety of settings. It could bring extra life to a festival crowd, add some funk to a nightclub playlist or provide the soundtrack to a gathering where good music and good company are essential. Its upbeat character makes it particularly suited to listeners looking for an alternative to more formulaic dance music.
Ultimately, this is a single that celebrates the lighter side of life through rhythm, melody and musical charm. The Underdogs of Funk combine soulful vocals, retro keyboard textures and contemporary polish to create a release with plenty of personality. ‘Karma on Speed Dial’ is an enjoyable reminder that funk is not simply a musical style; it is an attitude, a feeling and an invitation to get moving.
“Karma on Speed Dial” was released 16 October 2026.
